What the audit checks

Four things decide whether a site earns its keep: whether it’s found, how fast it loads, whether visitors get where they meant to go, and whether you can measure what happened. We check all four.

Findability, 19 checks. On each page: title and meta description length, one H1 and heading order, image alt text, the canonical tag, any noindex, and whether the JSON-LD parses. Across pages: repeated titles and H1s, Organization and WebSite schema, whether both www and non-www answer, whether robots.txt names a sitemap, and whether the sitemap’s newest date is under a year old.

Speed. Google’s mobile Core Web Vitals: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) over 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint (INP) over 200 milliseconds and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) over 0.1.

Journey. Pages in the sample that redirect before they load.

Tracking. Whether analytics or a tag manager is on every sampled page. We recognise Google Tag Manager, GA4, Segment, the Meta Pixel and Hotjar.

How to read the report

You get a score out of 100 and one per area. Performance counts most, and an area we couldn’t assess is left out rather than counted against you.

Start with the priority fixes. They’re ranked by impact, each with an owner and an effort estimate.

How it works

We load up to 20 pages in a real browser, one of each page type where we can find them. Speed comes from one page, the one with the most internal links: real-visitor data from Google’s Chrome UX Report (CrUX) when your site has it, otherwise one mobile lab test, which reports Total Blocking Time (TBT) in place of INP.

What it doesn’t check

Broken links, desktop speed, pages behind a login, or whether your events fire correctly. Link previews are the Link Preview Checker’s job. Tags other than the five above, such as TikTok, LinkedIn and Microsoft Clarity, won’t register, and walking the site to see what fires is the manual check.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. There’s no signup, and you don’t need to give an email address to see the full report.

How long does it take?

A few minutes. Larger sites and slow servers take longer.

What should I do with the results?

Fix what’s at the top of the list, then run the audit again. If every area scores low, the question may be whether fixes are enough at all, and our fix-or-redesign framework sets out how to make that call.
